Furnace vs. Heat Pump: What Is The Difference?

Furnace vs. Heat Pump: What Is The Difference?

Differences Between a Furnace and Heat Pump

A heat pump is a system commonly used to regulate heat in your home. It collects heat from the air and equally transmits it in your house to make it warm. Furthermore, it does not produce any heat of its own at all. Additionally, a heat pump can be used as a cooling system to cool your home. It differs from the furnace since the furnace has to rely on a different source of energy to heat your home. However, it is cheaper to install a heat pump since it costs less than a furnace.

On the other hand, a furnace is a system that depends on a fuel source to heat your home effectively. The fuel source, natural gas or oil, is heated, and heat is transmitted from the combustion chamber through the duct into your room/house. A furnace transfers warmer air into your home than a heat pump. Furthermore, some furnaces are powered by electricity, making them more efficient and reducing noise pollution produced during the combustion process.

Advantages of a Heat Pump

1. A heat pump is affordable in installation and maintenance costs compared to the furnace.
2. A heat pump requires less space.
3. It can warm or cool your house.
4. The heat pump operates silently and does not make any noise.

Advantages of a Furnace

1. It serves your home with warmer air compared to a heat pump.
2. It has fewer mechanical parts compared to a heat pump.
3. They are the most preferred heating choice.
