Should I Repair or Replace My Furnace?

Should I Repair or Replace My Furnace?

Many material objects don’t last a lifetime. Just as you need to replace your shoes, phone, and furniture every couple of years you also need to replace your furnace. However, some signs of replacement could just be signs of repair. So how do you know when it’s time to repair or replace your furnace? Keep on reading to find out.

Age of Your Furnace
The average life expectancy of a furnace is between 16-20 years. As your furnace gets close to this age it will start experiencing both minor and major problems. If your furnace is near the end of its lifespan then repairs would be impractical, and the best solution would be to replace your furnace. However, if your furnace is fairly new, or around the middle of its lifespan, the right option would be conducting repairs.

Energy Bills
If you have noticed that your energy bills are going up, it may be due to an issue your furnace is experiencing. If your furnace is less than 15 years old, it may just need a few parts repaired. However, if your furnace is older or nearing 15 years, it may be time to replace it. As furnace’s age, their efficiency starts to decline. It will cost you more to keep an inefficient furnace, thus it would be best to replace it if it is exceeding its life expectancy.

Improper Heat Distribution
If you find that you have certain rooms in your home being too cold while other rooms being too hot, this may be an issue due to your furnace. If your furnace is not allocating air evenly in your home this may be a bigger issue and may be a warning sign that you need to replace your furnace.

FAQ

  • Water is Leaking on my Furnace

Water falling on to the furnace can harm your heating unit by affecting the control boards and other components enclosed in the furnace. There can be many causes to the water overflow, but the most common cases in the summer is the ice build up inside the evaporator coil due to low refrigerant level. Water build up can also be due to the evaporator coil having a crack on the base, if this is the case contact us by booking an appointment or call us today to have a technician come have a look at your unit and repair this issue before it causes excessive damage.

  • Why is there ice building up on the copper pipes?

There can be many reasons why the refrigerant pipes are freezing up but the most common issue is low refrigerant levels. If your AC unit has ice buildup turn off the unit for at least 4 hours and call us at 416-410-0337

  • Most common Boiler Issues

    - Boiler fails to ignite
    - Low pressure
    - Strange Noises

  • What is a heat pump?

Heat pumps use electricity to move heat from a cool space to a warm space, making the cool space cooler and the warm space warmer. During the heating season, heat pumps move heat from the cool outdoors into your warm house and during the cooling season, heat pumps move heat from your cool house into the warm outdoors. Because they move heat rather than generate heat, heat pumps can provide equivalent space conditioning at as little as one quarter of the cost of operating conventional heating or cooling appliances.

  • Furnace is blowing cold air in Winter?

This can be due to Ignition lockout, sometimes could be resolved by resetting the power  and if this does not resolve the issue you should contact a certified gas technician from A-Plus Quality to get this problem resolved!
